Cape Town – Specialist retail group New Clicks Holdings continues to strengthen its senior management team with the appointment of Bertina Engelbrecht as group director for human resources and organisational development with effect from 1 July 2006.
An experienced human resources professional, Bertina (43) will be responsible for remuneration and benefits strategy, talent acquisition and development, corporate social investment programmes as well as driving transformation in the group. She has also been appointed to the group’s executive committee, which comprises executive directors David Kneale (chief executive officer), Keith Warburton (chief financial officer) and Michael Harvey (managing director, Clicks).
Bertina is currently general manager for Shell SA Energy and regional human resources manager for Shell Oil Products Africa.
An admitted attorney, Bertina holds a B Proc degree from the University of the Western Cape and an LLM in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town.
After spending eight years with Transnet, she managed her own consultancy practice before joining Sea Harvest in January 2002 where she was director of organisational effectiveness. She joined Shell in May 2004.
“One of the three main goals identified by the new management team of New Clicks is to have motivated and competent people working in the group. In order to achieve this we need to strengthen the human resources function and improve performance management, at the same time elevating the function to its rightful place in the business,” said David Kneale, chief executive.
“Bertina’s extensive experience across all facets of the human resources discipline in the corporate and consulting environments, together with her legal training, makes her the ideal candidate to realise the human capital potential within the group. Her appointment will add further depth to the range of complementary skills among the executive team as we focus on the delivery of our strategy,” he said.
